Two Can Play That Game - Jungkook Fan Fiction: Chapter 5

"Ah, here it is. Y/N, your partner is Taehyung," Mr. Kim finally announced.

I turned around to faced Taehyung and gave him a big grin. I giggled when he flashed his signature smile. I have always compared him to a cute anime character because of his adorable aegyo, cute poses, and box smile.

"Lisa, you will be with Hoseok," said Mr. Kim.

I looked a few seats across to where Lisa sits. She glanced over at me, looking like she had just seen a phantom. Her face was pale, except for her bright pink cheeks. Her quiescent state made her seem paralyzed from head to toe. I gave her a reassuring smile, followed by a mischievous one. A moment later, the bell signaling the end of the day rang. I met up with Lisa outside of the school after I packed up my books. Shortly after, Taehyung ran up to us as we were starting to leave.

"Aish! What took you so long?" I asked, annoyed.

"Sorry, I was asking the teacher for help on our project," he replied.

"Aw, so my help isn't enough?" I pouted.

He suddenly pulled me in for a hug.

Leaning in close to my ear, he whispered, "No, it's not," before running off, laughing.

"Yah!" I screamed as Lisa and I chased him.

We eventually reached my house, the first stop on the route. I bade my friends goodbye and went inside to greet my mom. My dad was a business man who travels overseas often, so he usually only visits home thrice a year for about a week. Though I miss him greatly, I am thankful to have such a loving mother to take care of me while he was away. Since today was Friday, I could relax since I had much time to complete my homework before Monday. I decided to watch a few episodes my favorite drama before dinner. After I ate, I lay down on my bed, brainstorming ideas that Taehyung and I could use as the basis of our assignment. I was deep in thought until I eventually fell asleep.

I heard a noise coming from my bedside table. Lazily glancing at my watch, I realized that it was only 4:00 A.M., so the noise was probably my phone, not my alarm. I sat up in my bed, groaning as my body reluctantly reached out while searching throughout the table with my hands. As I picked up the phone, I saw several notifications for missed calls from Taehyung just before I received another one.

What does he need that is worth disturbing my precious sleep? I thought, annoyed.

"Taehyung? What do you need?" I asked groggily upon answering the call.

"Y/N . . ." he choked.

"Hey, are you alright? Are you crying?" I replied, concerned.

"Y/N, there was a f- fire. My p- parents... my parents are in the h- hospital," he sobbed.

My body stiffened while hearing his melancholic words.

How could this happen to him? He does not deserve this, I thought.

"W- What? Taehyung, please tell me you're okay!" I yelled, tears falling like rain.

"I don't have enough money of my own to live anywhere. I asked Lisa if I could live with her for a while, but she already has many relatives living with her," he said, seeming to have calmed down slightly. "C- Can I maybe..."

"I will go ask my mom if you can stay, Taehyung. She will most likely let you, so you don't have to worry," I reassured him.

I hung up the phone and went into my mom's room.

"Hey, Eomma?" I said quietly.

"Hm?" she replied, getting up from her bed.

"Taehyung's house burned down and his parents are hospitalized, so could he maybe... stay with us until his parents get better?" I explained.

Her face became alert with shock.

"Of course! Poor boy . . ." she answered.

I smiled at her and went back to my room to call him again. He instantly picked up, patiently awaiting the answer.

"You can stay!" I blurted out.

"Jinjja?" he asked, surprised.

"Yeah! Bring anything that's still intact," I responded.

"Okay, I will come in a cab soon. Bye!" he said, ending the call right after.

Exhausted and saddened, I lay down on my bed and quickly drift into slumber.

"Yah!" was the first thing I heard in the morning, sending me jolting up from my mattress.

"Ah!" I screamed when I saw Taehyung laughing hysterically, standing alongside my bed.

I shot him a glare and got out of bed. I walked past him towards my door, making sure to hit his shoulder with mine harshly. I was about to walk down the stairs when he spoke.

"Y/N, come on! Take a joke! Anyways, my suit for the ball was supposed to be delivered this morning. I changed the recipient's address to here. Ooh! Can I help you get ready later?" he asked excitedly.

"Oh, sure!" I replied, wanting to distract him from last night's events.

I called Lisa to see if she wanted to go somewhere with us, but she was busy with preparations since she was on the planning committee for the ball.

"TaeTae, do you want to go to the mall right now?" I asked.

His face lit up like the colors of the rainbow.

"Yeah!" he yelled.

"Kids, keep it down," a voice groaned from my mom's room.

"Sorry, Eomma. Can Taehyung and I go to the mall?" I asked.

"Hm, yes. Just be safe and behave yourselves," she answered.

After easing her many concerns, we got ready and left the house.

We went home at 5:00 P.M. Taehyung styled my hair into rose bun and applied a light coating of makeup on my face.

"Taehyung, you are better than I am when it comes to beauty," I joked.

He gave a light chuckle and left the room to get ready himself. His suit had arrived while we were away. Shortly after we both finished getting ready, we left the house, walking together to the Halloween Ball. The venue was crowded and noisy from all the people laughing, dancing, and singing along to the music. I grabbed Taehyung's wrist and pulled him with me all over the dance floor in an attempt to find Lisa. I saw her chatting with some friends in our class by the snack bar. She looked in our direction and ran over to us before we reached her. At that moment, the first notes of the song "Even If I Die, It's You" blasted through the speakers. Screams went up throughout the crowd. Lisa and I squealed and started performing our original choreography that we had created months ago specifically for this song. Taehyung laughed as we perfectly executed a signature move from "DNA," another popular song. Once we struck our final pose, the melodious notes of a slow song filled the room.
