Two Can Play That Game - Jungkook Fan Fiction: Chapter 4

"W- What are you doing here?" I stammered.

"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm shopping, of course. Are you here to stalk me?" he smirked.

"It's none of your business. Why are you even shopping?" I scoffed.

"Ah, so you are stalking me," he said as his cold grin grew wider.

"Sure . . . if that's what you want to believe. I'll be on my way now unless you want me to keep 'stalking' you," I shot back sarcastically.

He rolled his eyes.

"Whatever," he mumbled.

With that, he just walked past me coldly. I turned to Lisa who was staring at me with a mischievous, yet anticipating smile.

"What? Is there something wrong?" I said, breaking the silence.

"No, everything is perfect . . . because Jeon Jungkook has a crush on you, and you like him back!" she squealed loudly enough for the whole store to hear.

I turned around to give a quick apology to everyone around us. Before I managed to get any words out, I saw smirking face behind me that belonged to, of course, Jungkook. Butterflies filled my stomach as he started coming towards us. He looked me straight in the eye with an intimidating stare.

"Someone told me you like me . . . looks like the crush is one-sided," he laughed.

"Aish! Don't be so full of yourself! Who would even like someone like you?" I scoffed.

"Oh, I don't know . . . maybe my twelve girlfriends along with my many fangirls?" he grinned.

"You just proved my point," I strengthened my glare. "Why am I even talking to you? Come on, Lisa, let's pay and go home."

I turned around to find Lisa trying to stifle her giggles. I rolled my eyes and smiled at her. We walked over to the long line to the cashier. Finally, it was our turn to pay. I saw that the cashier was a handsome guy around our age, and he looked quite familiar.

"Hello, ladies. How can I help you?" he spoke with a bright smile.

"I would like to buy this dress," I answered, gesturing to the cloth on my arm. "My friend will be purchasing this one."

Once he scanned the tag on each dress, he told us the prices. I payed for mine and looked to Lisa, expecting her to do the same. I found her blushing while looking down, not saying anything. I subtly elbowed her in the ribs.

"Hmm?" she looked up at me and then to the boy. "Oh, sorry. Here you go," she said shyly, handing him her credit card.

As soon as he gave it back along with our receipts, she grabbed my arm firmly and ran out, pulling me with her. I was surprised with she let out a long gasp right as we exited the store. After a moment, it became clear to me that she had holding her breath for a while.

"What was all that?" I asked her.

"L- Let's go. I'll tell you in the car," she stumbled, pushing me from behind in the direction of the parking lot.

As we were heading to the mall exit, I saw a Starbucks outlet. I had skipped my morning coffee to get ready for our day out, so I was craving a cappuccino.

"Lisa," I whined, "can we please go to Starbucks? You can tell me everything over a cup of coffee."

"Aish! Okay, fine," she sighed.

We walked into the cafe and sat down. I ordered a iced cappuccino, and Lisa chose an Italian Roast coffee. I looked up at her anxiously, waiting for her to answer all my unspoken but obvious questions.

"Care to explain yourself?" I blurted, interrupting the silence.

"Do you know who that was?" she followed up.

"Who are you talking about? Do you mean the cashier?" I inquired.

"Who else would it be?" she said before taking a long sip of her drink.

"Yeah, he looked familiar, but I don't know from where I met him," I answered.

"He's Jung Hoseok! I can't believe you don't remember him! He's really popular but also a very nice person. I don't think he even knows about his own fame. If he does, then he clearly doesn't care about it," she ranted.

"Why were you so shy at the checkout counter then?" I replied.

She looked down and blushed furiously.

"He's . . . He's my crush . . ." she answered in almost a whisper.

My body stiffened as I stared at her in disbelief. Then, a smirk appeared on my face.

"You know, Lisa, you should never tell your best friend who your crush is. Prepare for the many things I will do to you two lovebirds as the ultimate matchmaker," I responded with an evil grin plastered across my face.

Her eyes widened at my remark.

"Y- You're just joking, right?" she asked in a worried tone.

"Hm . . . nope!" I laughed.

She picked up her stirring straw and poked me playfully on my right arm, causing me to laugh even harder. Lisa and I spent the rest of the day walking around town while chatting about everything that was going on in our lives.

The week was flying by fast as people were busy with school and preparations for the ball. Today was Friday, the day before the anticipating event. I was copying down the notes on the board while many of my classmates were hanging out before the teacher comes. After a while, I became bored, so I joined them.

"Get to your seats, everyone. The bell rang a minute ago, so you should all be focusing now," bellowed Mr. Kim.

The class fell silent and did as they were told.

"We will be doing a partner project over the next two weeks. You and your partner must create and present a five minute long speech about the significance and impact of any historical event that led up to World War II. Along with this, both of you will need to create a visual aid using a cardboard presentation layout. Oh, there's one more thing. This project will need to be completed in your own time because we need class time to learn the curriculum," he explained.

After going over the guidelines for the project, we had our lesson on the Roaring Twenties in America. I looked at my watch and realized that only a few minutes of class remained.

"Back to the project, I have randomly chosen the partners beforehand," Mr. Kim announced.

He began reading out the pairs while I was lost in my thoughts about how the project will go. I perked up when I heard my name.

"Y/N will be partners with . . ." he spoke while flipping through the list of names.
