Two Can Play That Game - Jungkook Fan Fiction: Chapter 6

"Ladies and gentleman, grab a partner for this dance," announced the DJ through the microphone.

Moments later, I recognized the song as "If You." As I glanced in Lisa's direction, I noticed a boy heading towards her.

"Lisa, can you get us some fruit punch, please?" I asked politely, trying to hide a smirk.

"Yeah, sure. I'll be right ba-," she stopped as she turned around only to find herself inches away from Jung Hoseok.

"H- Hi, Lisa. I was w- wondering if you would like to dance with me," he stuttered, blushing.

She stood in place for a while, staring at him in shock.

"I'd love to," she finally answered, trying to suppress her wide smile.

Taehyung and I laughed as I pushed Lisa, causing her to fall into Hoseok's arms. After Lisa glared at me somewhat playfully, they walked away, holding hands. I turned to Taehyung.

"Shall we?" I asked, gesturing towards an empty area in the center of the dance floor.

"Sorry, I already have a girlfriend," he joked.

We both burst out laughing at his response.

"We shall," he finally replied with a box smile.

We linked our arms and made our way towards the center of the floor. Taehyung placed his hands on either side of my waist, and I wrapped my arms around his neck. I could feel his steady breath as we swayed right and left to the melody. The smiles had faded from our faces and were replaced with intense stares as we replayed in our minds all the moments we had shared together throughout our lives. I could feel the sudden heat of the spotlight on us.

"I remember the old times. I remember you," the song played.

The lyrics of the song were in perfect harmony with my thoughts. As the chorus started playing, I stood perfectly upright and did not move a muscle. Taehyung and I brought our faces closer to each other until they were only centimeters apart. I closed my eyes, anticipating what was to happen next. My emotions became uncontrollable, and butterflies fluttered to and fro inside of my stomach, creating enormous knots.

"Yoon Y/N! What is the meaning of this?" a voice suddenly boomed, capturing the attention of every person in the venue.

I froze upon recognizing that voice and turned around slowly and hesitantly.

Ding Dong! the doorbell sounded.

Jungkook waited patiently in front of the residence he had passed so often while driving but never payed much attention to. He perceived the sound of someone hustling down the stairs. After a few moments, the sound of the lock being unlatched from the inside could be heard just before the door swung open, revealing Y/N's mother.

"Hello, Mrs. Yoon. I'm Jungkook, one of Y/N's classmates. "I was staying after school today for dance practice when our teacher asked me to bring Y/N's science test that he had just graded to her since this house is on my route home," he said, holding out a folded piece of paper.

"Oh, thank you, Jung- wait, what's this? She failed!" she exclaimed.

Jungkook quickly turned to the side and pretended to be fascinated by the pink and yellow flowers near the porch in order to hide his grin.

"Do you know, by any chance, where she went?" Mrs. Yoon asked once she calmed down slightly. "She was dressing up earlier before going out somewhere."

"I believe today is the Halloween Ball. She is probably there right now, in fact," he answered, strictly following his plan for revenge at Y/N.

No one slaps me and gets away with it, Jungkook thought.

Mrs. Yoon's eyes widened just before she ushered him towards his car.

"Can you take me to the venue, please?" she asked him sweetly, successfully covering up her raging mood.

He nodded and stepped into the driver's seat. She followed, sitting in the passenger's seat beside his. Jungkook looked up the directions to the locale and drove off quickly.

"Can we exchange numbers? You seem to be a responsible student who can help me keep an eye on that girl," she laughed.

"Of course," he chuckled, smiling at the compliment.

By the time he had finished reciting his phone number a few times, they had reached the noisy location.

Mrs. Yoon ran out of the car as soon as it had stopped. She burst through the front entrance, soon followed by Jungkook. She frantically eyed the crowd in search of a specific person. Suddenly, a spotlight shone on a dancing couple, its lights creating an iridescent effect on the girl's dress and wavy, dark-brown hair. The fuming mother's eyes rested on the girl, trying to confirm her suspicion. Moments later, the girl brought herself closer to her partner as Mrs. Yoon stormed up to them with an enraptured Jungkook still on her tail.

"Yoon Y/N! What is the meaning of this?" she yelled, causing many gasps from the startled audience to be released, followed by arrant silence.

The girl's body stiffened as she turned around, her black dress flowing around her.

"E- Eomma?" I faltered. "Why are you-?"

"Come with me," Mrs. Yoon interrupted, grabbing my wrist and pulling me towards the parking lot. "Jungkook, you should come, too."

She led us out of the building and onto the sidewalk beside it.

"Care to explain why I had to hear about your failed science test from your classmate?" she asked, waving the paper in front of my face.

"W- What?" I stammered, snatching it and hiding it behind my back.

I heard a slight giggle coming from behind my mother. Looking over her shoulder, I glared at an extremely amused Jungkook.

At least she didn't see me and Taehyung, I thought, relieved.

"You're grounded for two weeks, Y/N," she said, not waiting for my answer to her question. "Mianhe, Jungkook, for dragging you into my incompetent daughter's problems," she sighed, turning to face him.

He instantly wore a serious expression in front of Mrs. Yoon. I rolled my eyes heavily.

"It's alright. Not all people can be as talented as I am," he joked.

Despite the tense setting, I let out a laugh.

This boy really has a death wish, I thought.
