Two Can Play That Game - Jungkook Fan Fiction: Chapter 3

After the long and tedious class finally ended, I started to pack my things to go home for the day. Taehyung came up to me with a serious look on his face.

"Y/N, will you accompany me to the ball?" he asked out of nowhere.

I was frozen. I could not figure out where all this was coming from. I only met up with him today after so many years, and he is already asking me this!

"P- Pardon?" I finally managed to say.

His gaze grew softer as he started to blush.

"Oh . . . no! I mean as friends," he said sheepishly.

My hammering heart slowed down as a wave of relief washed over me.

"Yeah, sure!" I smiled.

We walked outside and met up with Lisa.

"Taehyung! Why didn't you tell me you were coming back?" she screamed in excitement, followed by embracing him in a tight hug.

"Lisa . . . I can't breath . . ." he choked.

"Oh, sorry!" she giggled.

"I wanted to surprise you and Y/N!" he answered after catching his breath.

We walked home together after that, catching up on all that we had missed out.

"Y/N, do you have a boyfriend?" Taehyung suddenly asked.

"No, why?" I replied, blushing.

"That boy- I think his name was Jungkook- kept looking like he wanted to kill me for hanging out with you," he chuckled awkwardly.

"Huh? He's the school playboy! Yah! Taehyung, what were you thinking?" I shouted, punching his arm playfully.

"Ah! Okay, sorry! I was just wondering!" he laughed.

I finally reached home and completed the rest of my day as usual. I did my homework, ate dinner, took a shower, and fell asleep as soon as my body hit the mattress.

Many weeks flew by, and today was a regular Tuesday. I would have the same schedule every day, and nothing new came up. Jungkook did not talk to me much anymore, and I spent most of my time either working on school assignments or hanging out with my friends. While I was working on my math homework after school, I felt a continuing buzz in my pocket. I took my phone out and realized that Lisa was calling me, so I picked up.

"Y/N, let's go shopping for dresses for the ball!" Lisa immediately exclaimed.

I was silent, thinking about the ball. I had completely forgotten that the dance was this weekend.

"Y/N?" said Lisa, finally breaking the silence that was lingering for over a minute.

"Yeah! Let's go to the mall. I saw a store that was selling really nice dresses the last time I went there," I answered.

"Okay, great! I'll come pick you up in 20 minutes. Bye!" she responded, and I ended the call.

I quickly threw on a simple outfit consisting of a blue polo shirt and skinny jeans and applied some foundation, followed by a hint of makeup. Just as I finished coaxing my uncooperative hair into a dutch braid, the doorbell rang. I went downstairs, greeted Lisa, and sat through the short drive to the mall. We each bought a cinnamon pretzel and were eating it as we made our way to our destination. When we finally reached the store, we began to look for a dress for Lisa first.

"Lisa, over here! I found a dress that I think will suit you," I beckoned.

She made her way to me and smiled as she saw it. It was a zaffre blue dress and had a flowy, yet elegant design below the waist that traveled down to just about knee-level.

"Well, try it on!" I interrupted, breaking Lisa from her state of shock at how beautiful the dress was.

She nodded and went headed to one of the dressing rooms, the dress smoothly placed over her arm as to prevent any wrinkles. Shortly after, she came out wearing the dress. I stared at her in shock before grinning widely.

"Lisa, you look absolutely stunning! You should definitely buy this one!" I exclaimed.

"Thanks! Okay . . . I'll get this one! Let's go look for a dress for you now," she replied, blushing.

She went back to change into her regular clothes as I began my hunt for a dress that would transform me into a princess just as Lisa's dress had done to her. As I was walking through the aisles between the clothing racks, a particular dress caught my eye. It seemed a bit old-fashioned, yet quite chic. the top part had stitched black swirls sown together to make the entire fabric. Below that, there were double-layered white frills curling in their corresponding directions. The bottoms of the frills were embroidered with a thin black lace.

"Wow! It looks beautiful! Go try it on, Y/N!" shouted a familiar voice from behind me.

Startled, I turned around and saw Lisa looking over my shoulder at the dress eagerly. I smiled at her in response and took the dress to the one of the stalls. Inside the dressing room, I smiled as I saw myself wearing the dress in front of the mirror. I could hardly recognize this glamorous being as myself. I would have continued just standing there for hours until I heard Lisa's voice.

"Y/N, is everything alright in there?" she called.

"Yeah, I'm coming," I answered back.

With that, I exited the dressing room to find Lisa. As soon as she saw me, her eyes grew wide, and she started to look hyperactive.

"Y/N! You must get that dress!" she yelled loudly, causing many people to give us cold stares momentarily.

"Okay, I will. Just calm down already!" I whispered, trying to draw little attention.

I turned around to go back to my stall until I met a familiar face. I saw shocked Jungkook staring at me, jaw dropped and unable to speak. I walked past him while pretending not to notice his presence. I could feel his stare on me until I shut to door to my stall.

Well, that was awkward, I thought.

I looked in the mirror one last time and discovered that my cheeks were cherry red. I wondered if anyone else noticed me blushing. I slid my back down against the wall until I was sitting and buried by face in my hands in embarrassment. After I changed, I waited for a few more minutes just to make sure I will not run into Jungkook.

I went out of the stall and was headed to the dressing room area exit. As I reached it, I bumped into someone coming from the men's dressing rooms, causing us to both fall down.

"Omo! I'm so sorry, sir!" I said, helping the man up.

"It's okay. It was my fau-" the man looked at me.

My blush returned and I looked down shyly upon realizing who he was.

"Y/N?" he asked.

"Oh . . . um . . . hello, Jungkook," I stammered.
